Here's what my desktop looked like earlier today
CD Player
- This is the Windows NT CD player application. The current disk is from "Hootie and the Blowfish"
Volume Control
- This is the mixer control panel for setting audio levels. I like it, except for the lack of bass/treble controls.
Prime95
- This is my contribution to the
The GREAT Internet Mersenne Prime Search. This program searchs for VERY LARGE prime numbers in the
computers spare time. It doesn't slown down my use of the computer, so I've put it in my startup folder.
Clock
- It's a digital clock, I turned off the seconds display because I noticed it slowing down the prime95 program.
Program Manager
- This is the default desktop application manager for Windows NT 3.51. I've set it to minimize itself anytime
I run an application. Then I always have a handle to it at the bottom of the screen.
Remote Access
- This is the program suppied with Windows NT to access other systems, including the internet. It emulates Winsock 2.0,
so I can run ALL windows internet applications.
Powwow
- This program from Tribal Voice was originally intended to help aboriginal
americans keep in touch with each other. It's swelled up quite a bit from feature creep, but I still find it usefull.
I can be reached at ka9dgx@tsrcom.com most of the time.
Paint Shop Pro
- This is a great shareware program from JASC. I use it for manipulating images, and making things transparent.
Eudora Pro
- This program, from Qualcomm is the best email progam I've ever used. I bought it well before it ever hit the shelfs at egghead.
File Manager
- This is a simple, yet suprisingly powerful program for moving, copying, and deleting files on my hard drives.
I also use it to add/remove directories and set permissions on our file server.
Mirc
- I use Mirc version 4.1 to chat with my friends on EFnet in the #chicagochat channel. I can usually be found with the
nickname of MikeWarot or MWarot
Netscape Navigator
- This program is the best browser I know of at this time. It's grown to include a HUGE number of features, most of which
actually work. It has some quirks, and suffers from feature bloat, like most programs. I particularly like the View | Document Source
and View | Document Info commands. There is a lot that can be learned by example on the web, and this makes it painless.
Notepad
- This is the Windows NT notepad. Without a doubt the simplest, most direct, and powerful tool on the planet for the
creation, and modification of HTML code. This version doesn't have the 64k limit that plagued the Windows 3.x versions
of the past.
Background
- This is the desktop, the default windows color is Aqua (#008888)
