Prayer for Those

Who Suffer

Loving, merciful, gentle God, you know the suffering
of your people. Please look with your gracious goodness
on those who suffer, give them the grace and courage
they need, fill them with your love. Help them to
understand that though their suffering is great, your love
is even greater. Strengthen their faith in that love so
they may know that you are with them in their suffering
just as you were with your beloved son, Jesus, in his
suffering. As they cry outwith Jesus, ‘My God, why
have you forsaken me?’ help them to know that their cry
is a continuation of Jesus’ cry, that his redemptive suffering
continues in theirs, that like him, they are your
beloved sons and daughters.
