If you are looking for an unusual awesome present for someone who at4ended the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this would make a great surprise.
Just sit back and watch the smile on their face when you put it on the computer.
This is great for the person who is impossible to buy for!
While I was selling these UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS items
on ebay over the past 3 months or so, I mentioned in each description that I
was planning to make a CD of this great collection. Being a man of my word...
HERE IT IS! I originally thought this would be
a cd of only the images, but...as you can tell I went a little bit overboard!
Utilizing my expert award winning graphic skills
I took these great old images and made a totally awesome, far out, really cool,
neato screen saver AND slide show. I have a sore shoulder from patting my self
on the back, I really hope you enjoy this as much as I have. Right now I am
really driving Carol nuts because she has to type this for me a I ramble it
off.
(Description by Carol don't you guys feel sorry for me?)
Not only does this CD have real photo postcards it also includes close up high
resolution scans of the faces of the people in the group shots. You just might
recognize a relative! The scans that I chose to include in this slide show and
screen saver presentation would be great to have for researching a specific
building or 1908 graduate of the University of Illinois.

PLEASE READ: I bought a great Vintage Historic collection
of the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign. It is dated from the years
1903 to 1911. It has images of the end of the Victorian era frozen in time.
This was put together by Wiebe Alice White. She is a U of I graduate with a
Degree from the School of Library Science. This collection is a compilation
of her years at the University of Illinois at Urbana and Champaign. The majority
of the items I will be listing for sale are from 1907-08. The U of I collection
includes Real photo post cards 3 ½" X 5 ½" and Photos
that most were made with the silver print process. Back in those years it was
the best way to take high resolution photos.
Pictures, real photo postcards and other items included
will be from the May Pole Festival, The Pageant, Crowning of the May Queen,
Milk Maids, Buildings and views of the collage and the Interscholastic Circus.
Miss Wiebe Alice White graduated from the University of Illinois in 1908. She
attended the University of Illinois from 1905 to 1908 obtaining a Bachelors
of arts in Library Science. She then moved to Walla Walla Washington and was
the Library cataloger at Whitman College from 1908-1909. From 1908 to 1910 she
worked at the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries at the Art institute of Chicago
Illinois as the Assistant Librarian. In 1910 she was promoted to the Reference
department at the Art Institute of Chicago Illinois. Thank you to Chris Prom,
Assistant University Archivist at the University of Illinois for the above information
about Miss Wiebe Alice White.
The sporting and sport events
included are Football, Baseball, Pole vault and Color Rush Day. Group photos
include faculty (Teachers), Graduation (students) , the ROTC
Military band, Programs, plus a 1908 copy of Student
Newspaper "The Summer Illini" Vol 1 No. Plus many more items...
too many list. If you know any graduates (U of I Alumni)
let them know about this rare collection that I am listing on Ebay.
IS THIS THE WORLDS LONGEST DESCRIPTION OR WHAT? YOU CAN BUY IT NOW! .... Carol
:)
Bernard Andrew Strauch graduated from the U of I in 1908 with a degree is Law.
According to his Grandson, John B. Schroeder, he was also the photographer who
took the real photos used in the postcards from this University of Illinois
collection. Mr. Strauch started the photography business and Strauch's Student
Life Series in order to put himself through law school. By the time he graduated,
he was making more money as a photographer than most lawyers in Illinois, and
consequently never practiced law BA Strauch was written up in Parade Magazine
twice (the last time in the early 60's) as being one of the first and best sports
photographers. Judging by the high quality of the actual photographs in this
collection, he is very likely the photographer who took them also.
In 1908 something interesting and historic happened at
the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The University of Illinois and
Ohio State University met in the UOFI auditorium on March 13 and debated this
question.... Resolved: That the immigration of all Japanese and Chinese laborers
to the United States should be prohibited by Law. I am guessing this made the
headlines in all the newspapers and radio talk shows. I am now assuming that
this may be why his Excellency Dr. Wu Ting Fang was the guest speaker and head
of the procession for the 1908 Graduation Ceremonies. He made a Historic speech
on Graduation day about why China and America should be friends.
His Excellency, Dr. Wu Ting-fang gave
the commencement address at the 1908 Graduation ceremonies. Below are scans
of some of the larger photos with the Teachers, Professors and Staff of the
University of Illinois in 1908 including His Imperial Chinese Majesty's Envoy
Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the United States of America.
